A Win-Win For Everyone
Jarro diversifies by adding 'green' and energy services

By Rhonda Gerson

Jarro Building Industries in East Meadow has launched an intensive campaign to expand its range of services in the shrinking economy.

Jarro apparently is one of the few home building and remodeling firms to take such an initiative. Ray Accettella, president of Jarro, said his firm was recently certified by the Building Performance Institute(BPI) as an Accredited Home Performance Contractor.

"Jarro has always looked for ways to increase our market share by adding services for the customer," Accettella said. "The home performance audits support our commitment to green building and energy efficient homes, introduce us to new customers and offer the homeowner conservation solutions which may be eligible for tax credits. It's a win-win for everyone."

The efficiency audits it will provide under the Jarro Energy Sevices Corporation(JESC) name add yet another level of "green" services for customers. In addition to JESC, Jarro also has a successful commercial building division, certified Aging in Place and ADA (American with Disability Act, design specialists, Jarro Handyman for smaller residential projects and Jarro is the exclusive Long Island distributor for Westchester Modular prefabricated homes. According to Accettella, in order to earn certification and inclusion in the Energy Star Program, Jarro's building and remodeling professionals were trained in taking a "whole house" approach when testing homes and identifying necessary energy efficiency improvements. Accettella added that after performing the audits, the company provides an analysis and a report of recommended improvements, which can save the homeowners up to 40 percent off their energy bills.

Jarro's Energy Audits utilize a blower door to depressurize the house and show where air leakages are occurring.
Safety Test
Meters are tested to protect against dangerous natural gas leaks.

Accettella added it is the homeowner's choice as to which recommendations to follow, and there is no obligation on the homeowner's part to use Jarro's services. The company does, however, offer discounts for any work contracted.

Jarro Energy Services Corp. and the home energy audits are just the latest move in a companywide strategy to find new ways to service existing customers and to reach new ones. "We believe that it all comes down to re-educating yourself so you can use the right products and have the right services to help your customers. Done right, each division supports the others," said Accettella.

"Our energy audits introduce us to homeowners looking to conserve energy for both economic and environmental reasons. These homeowners may use us for the recommended repairs, and will remember Jarro when they want green building services for an ENERGY STAR rated remodeling project. Jarro Handyman lets us help our clients with the smaller projects, and our ADA and Aging-in-Place specialties make it possible for older or disabled clients to remain in their family homes."

Efficiency Test
Hot water heaters and boilers are tested for efficiency levels to determine if upgrades or repairs are needed.

Jarro's certification as an ENERGY STAR New Homes Partner attracts homeowners looking to reduce their carbon footprint, since the designation distinguishes the company as an expert in the field. To earn the ENERGY STAR rating, a home must meet guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These homes are at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code (IRC), and include additional energy-saving features that typically make them 20-30 percent more efficient.

Jarro also provides award-winning commercial services, from complete remodeling to interior renovations on historic buildings, medical facilities, and places of worship, retail facilities and public works buildings.

"In today's market, it's foolish to provide only one service. Jarro has grown for more than 40 years, and continues to grow, because we can reach the customer at every project level - and because we provide the same commitment to quality regardless of the size of the job," concluded Accettella.

Jarro's remodeling services are regularly honored with NARI and LIBI awards - in 2008 the company was recognized by both associations for its outstanding residential and commercial projects. The company's building and remodeling experts have been serving both the homeowner/residential and the commercial sectors on Long Island since 1965.
