Commercial Services > Historical Restorations

Long Island is long on history, boasting many historic residences and buildings. And when those buildings are in need of restoration, Jarro gets the job done. From replicating the original building materials to maintaining the structural integrity of historical sites, Jarro helps to bring Long Islanders back to a simpler time.

Featured Project: Marion Carll Farm

FeldsteinJarro renovated several of the structures on the Marion Carll Farm in Commack, one of Long Island's most intact historical farms. Owned by the Commack School District and leased to BOCES III, the structures were restored to their original state with State grants and local donations so that school groups could visit and have hands-on experiences at a real, historic family farm. The Carll family owned the property from 1701 until 1968, making it unique to Long Island. The Carll Farm is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Jarro restored the barns and silos to their appearance in the late 1800s, saving what was salvageable and using specially milled planks and shingles designed to recreate the original look, to replace the rest. New foundations were built for the barns. Before the grain barn was taken apart, each piece was given a tag so the building could be reassembled.

Today, at the Marion Carll farm students learn about historical archeology, mapping and surveying, architecture, and colonial technology.
